Public Bar’s tagline is “For the People” and that is exactly what their new space in Commercial Bay insinuates. With its large wraparound bar and the many cozy seating options, the bar is sure to be the buzzing centre of the new dining precinct.
A brainchild of Bedford & Soda’s Matt Nicholls, the area reserved for Public also includes various pop-up kiosks offering various bites.
Straight at the back of the Harbour Eats food hall, you’ll see Public’s shining lights through the crowds; the LED lit bar is its centrepiece (along with the hundreds of bottles of the good stuff, of course).
Harbour Eats’ signature backlit boards frame the space, emitting a muted lowlight and an atmosphere of a cozy old-school pub. Lighting also serves to add to the ambience of the rest of the bar, with custom wall lighting lining the back wall.
The prized spot of the space, however, has to go to the Private Dining Room, available to be reserved for groups and private dining. Located in its very own corner of the building, this table overlooks Auckland’s Ferry Building and busy downtown streets. The state-of-the-art pendants hanging in the space manage to tie in with Public’s theme while also setting this corner apart from the rest of the bar.
We worked with the owners, designers, architects and other trades to complete this project, and our works included a new purpose-built switchboard, lighting and power distribution to the space, specialist lighting design and installation, and all electrical and communications wiring.
Public is located in Harbour Eats, on Level 2 of Commercial Bay.
